Anxiety and stress are related, as anxiety is a reaction to stress. You may be prone to stress and anxiety if you tend to:

  • Worry about the future
  • Spend a lot of time in your head
  • Use your feelings to determine what’s true and not true
  • Avoid confrontation
  • Need to take control or responsibility for others
  • Have self-critical internal dialogue

Fear is also a big factor in anxiety. Being driven by fear stretches your coping strategies, making typical life changes and events difficult to manage.

Your anxiety might even be a sign of trauma – an indication that you’re being affected by past events that you haven’t recovered from. This can be very serious if not dealt with.

At Sydney Strategic Therapy, our clinical hypnotherapist will help you get to the root cause of your anxiety and develop a strategy for recovering quickly through hypnosis. This gentle and safe method can open up all the possibilities of a life without anxiety.

How you may experience anxiety

Anxiety starts when you perceive a threat, whether real or imagined. For example, you believe you’re going to be fired. Your brain’s amygdala signals the hypothalamus (the command centre), which sends the signal through the autonomic nervous system. This releases hormones including adrenaline.

When you become anxious, you may immediately experience:

  • Faster heart beat
  • Increased pulse rate
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Faster breathing.

You may also experience:

  • Jitteriness and restlessness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle tension
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Dry mouth
  • Sweating
  • Stomach ache
  • Headache
  • Ringing in ears
  • Sleep disruption
  • Brain fog
  • Digestion issues.

Unfortunately, this vast array of symptoms can lead to misdiagnosis, as they’re attributed to physical causes. Meanwhile, the true source of the problem continues.

These experiences could suggest that you’re suffering from anxiety:

  • You bring work problems home with you.
  • You feel ‘out of control’.
  • You feel panicked for no logical reason.
  • You have chest tightness, sweaty hands, ‘brain freeze’, and a hollow in the pit of your stomach.
  • Your thoughts are dominated by a traumatic experience.
  • You juggle multiple things and don’t do any to its best.
  • Your health is suffering.
  • Your relationships could be better.
  • You feel responsible for others.
  • You want to get off the hamster wheel and enjoy your life.
  • You use substances (alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, sugar, drugs – illicit and prescription) to cope with daily life.
  • You feel overwhelmed, unhappy or sad.

Hypnotherapy as treatment for anxiety

At Sydney Strategic Therapy, we use hypnotherapy as a highly effective treatment for anxiety. Hypnosis has long been an empowering safe and relaxing way to help people with smoking, weight loss, trauma and other issues.

One big advantage is that it works very quickly. In a recent hypnosis study, patients needed only 6 sessions and had a 93% recovery rate.

It works because clinical hypnotherapists are trained to recognise change resistance behaviours and uncover the root causes of problems. They also encourage follow-up appointments to reinforce positive behaviours, so results may be longer-lasting.

How our hypnotherapy sessions work

At a subconscious level, your habits and compulsions have been reinforced over many years. Your brain is hardwired to keep your habits in place, so you may not notice the control they have over your actions.

Your clinical hypnotherapist, Kim, will identify your negative behaviours and triggers to find the subconscious thinking pattern that’s keeping your behaviour in place – the root cause.

Once she determines the root cause, she’ll device the best strategy for dealing with it and making that strategy ‘stick’. While many people see results after one session, you’ll need to regularly assess and reinforce the strategy to make it stick long-term.

Kim will guide you through exercises to reinforce the new behaviour and make it stronger. Over time and with the proper technique, you will completely transform old, automatic subconscious thoughts.

Kim can also help you improve on your results. For example, if the results were subtle after your first session, she might choose another strategy to help you overcome your anxiety.
We will find the most effective, personalised solution to get you the results you need.
